Networking is an essential part of business.
But it often feels like a slog.
Here are 3 ways to hate it less.

Network to learn.
Not to sell.
I recently had a call with a cattle farmer.
I was helping him with his online branding.
As usual, I asked a lot of questions.
And then he said something that caught me off guard.
“Our cattle are grass-fed and finished on a blend of locally grown grains and fruit.”
Fruit?!
I didn’t even know cattle could eat fruit.
Turns out that fruit gives the meat a little extra flavor.
I had no idea.
Here’s my point.
Everyone is an expert on something.
Everyone has something interesting to share.
The trick is to listen more than you speak.
Most people ask terrible questions.
Here’s how to NOT be like most people.
As a host of a podcast show.
I obsess over questions.
They are like a pick axe to a gold miner.
Ask the right question, and you may strike gold.
But this isn’t unique to podcasting.
Every new engagement is an opportunity to ask better questions.
Here are some of my favorites.
Everyone has a story to share.
You just have to know where to look.
Next time you’re at a networking event.
Water your wallflowers.
According to the Oxford Dictionary.
A wallflower is a person who has no one to dance with or who feels shy, awkward, or excluded at a party.
These are my favorite people to network with.
Why?
Well, for starters, I am one.
But the real reason is because they are fascinating.
People who THINK more than they SPEAK always have the most fascinating ideas.
Don’t get allured by your extroverts.
Network with your introverts.
Take home point…
- Network to learn.
- Ask better questions to have better conversations.
- Introverts are fascinating.

What’s YOUR favorite networking hack?!
