How do you increase engagement?

What performs better on social media?
Positivity or negativity?
I recently posted a video of me and my girlfriend at the gym.
I was standing behind her doing bicep curls while she was walking on the treadmill.
The caption said, “When your girlfriend is looking too good at the gym.”
It made people laugh.
Most people assume negativity prevails.
Luckily for humanity, they’d be wrong.
When it comes to social media engagement.
Positive emotions outperform negative emotions.
Make people laugh, and watch your engagement go up.
Solo content has its place.
But it rarely performs as well as group content.
I host a Meetup group of health & fitness entrepreneurs.
I always post a recap of the event.
Every time I do, my followers and engagement go up.
Partly due to tagging people.
Partly due to the feeling of FOMO.
But mostly because humans are wired for connection.
Create with community builders and watch your engagement go up.
Educational content is great.
But sometimes, people want a sneak peek.
I posted a “date night” video.
I honestly didn’t think much of it.
Felt like a normal night if you ask me.
But engagement went up.
The insight?
People want to know YOU.
Show people what really happens in your life and watch the engagement go up.
Take home point…
- Positive emotion outperforms negative emotion.
- Create content with community builders.
- Show people the behind-the-scenes.
My interview with Dr. Alyssa O’Krent inspired this email.
