3 marketing tactics I learned from the Texas State Fair.
That are totally underrated.
LFG
👇
Corndogs suck.
But I bought a corndog at the Texas State Fair.
Why?
Associations.
When I think about fairs.
I think about corndogs.
When I think about Gold's Gym.
I think about bodybuilding.
When I think about Adidas.
I think about soccer.
When people think about you.
What do they think about?
Everyone has an association.
For better or for worse.
What’s yours?
Most people think too small.
But not you.
While at the Texas State Fair.
I saw a spread of meat like I’d never seen before.
There must have been 100+ Turkey legs on this grill.
I couldn’t look away.
It reminded me of a powerful marketing tactic.
”The Shock and Awe”
Going above and beyond people’s expectations.
If you want people to talk about you.
Give them the shock and awe treatment.
I wouldn’t recommend this at the fair.
But I had to get it.
A deep-fried sushi bomb.
Sushi at a fair doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Which is exactly why I had to get it.
Novelty.
Humans love new.
Even if it sucks (this didn’t for the record).
We believe new = better.
What are you offering people that is novel?
People will often opt-in… just because it’s new.
Take home point…
- Become known for something.
- Shock and awe people.
- People love new because it’s new.
✌️
Until next time,
