You’re not for everybody.
And that’s the point.
Marketing lessons from a gym with a modern fitness culture.

If you’re trying to be liked.
You’ll never truly be loved.
I visited a new gym called core24.
Their deadlift room has neon lights.
Do you know who loves neon lights?
Millennials.
Do you know who hates neon lights?
Boomers.
Obviously, I’m generalizing, but here’s my point.
Know who you serve and cater to them.
Forget the rest.
A gym is a gym.
Here’s how you stand out.
You become gramworthy.
My girlfriend was the one who initially picked this gym
She picked it for one reason and one reason only.
It looked dope on Instagram.
I later realized that the gym owner also happened to be a filmmaker before he was a gym owner.
Here’s the lesson.
Create content for your ideal client.
And let them self-select.
It’s not enough to have a community.
You need a culture.
A community is shared interests.
Like working out.
A culture is shared beliefs.
Like a WAY of working out.
The second I stepped into core24 I knew the culture.
It’s a weightlifting gym.
Weightlifters have a very different culture than cardio bunnies.
They like their rooms dark.
They like their coffee strong.
They like their music loud.
Here’s the lesson.
If you’re trying to build something that resonates deeply.
Culture > community.
Take home point…
- Know who you serve and forget the rest.
- Content leads to customers.
- Culture > community.
